This was a quiet and fairly remote campground, located about 5 miles off the main highway and roughly 15 miles from the town of Carlsbad. It made a good base for visiting Carlsbad Caverns National Park, which was about an hour’s drive away. The campground has around 40 sites, and while there are bathrooms available, the showers were only lukewarm at best — not exactly spa-like, but manageable.
The setting is peaceful and scenic, but activities are limited. Apart from walking the trails down to the lake, there’s not a whole lot to do in the immediate area, which made it a nice spot to just unwind and enjoy the quiet desert surroundings.
