San Lorenzo Canyon is a stunning, remote area known for its sandstone cliffs, natural arches, and hoodoos. It’s the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the New Mexico desert. The nearest place to get food, gas, or water is in Lemitar, about 13 miles away, so planning ahead is essential.
We found a boondocking site about 5 miles up a dirt road from the main highway and spent the weekend there. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful, but very isolated — with no Wi-Fi or cell service at all.
At night, the only sounds were the distant howls of coyotes, adding to the wild, untouched feel of the place. It was the perfect spot to unplug, soak up the quiet, and be fully surrounded by nature. Just be sure to come prepared, as there are no amenities and no digital connection once you're in the canyon
