Elephant Butte Lake State Park is the largest state park in New Mexico, located about 7 miles north of Truth or Consequences along the shores of the expansive Elephant Butte Reservoir. The lake is a major draw for boating, fishing, swimming, and just soaking in the desert scenery.
The park offers around 150 developed campsites spread across three main camping areas. Beachfront camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it a great option for those who don’t mind getting a little sandy. For campers looking for more amenities, electrical hookup sites are available at Desert Cove, Quail Run, Lions Beach, and South Monticello, and these can be reserved between March 1 and September 30.
Whether you’re relaxing by the water, heading out for a day on the lake, or catching one of the area’s stunning sunsets, Elephant Butte offers a great base for enjoying southern New Mexico’s warm desert climate.
