On the drive between Phoenix and Tucson, a prominent peak breaks up the otherwise flat desert floor. Volcanic activity formed this surprising peak with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet. Its centerpiece spire is visible from downtown Tucson, a distance of 45 miles  Picacho Peak is located right off I-10 at exit 219. Picacho Peak State Park’s campground has a total of 78 electric sites, no water or sewer hookups are available but there is a dump station. The park offers a visitor center with exhibits, a park store and many hiking trails.
